The Tootsies' 50th Anniversary Celebration VIP Package includes: a preferred seat to the Ryman show; access to all activities at Tootsies' throughout the day (beginning at 10 a.m.), including the pre- and after-show parties; a commemorative Tootsies 50th Anniversary shirt; complimentary hors d'oeuvres; artist meet and greets, and more.
The Ryman show will include a retrospective presentation paying tribute to Tootsies and the iconic woman it's named for, Hattie Louise "Tootsie" Bess, who died in 1978. The concert will be part of a network television special and documentary celebrating Tootsies (details to be announced), produced by Nashville-based Travis Television.
Tootsies' proprietor, Steve Smith commented, "Tootsies has become a country music institution and Kris Kristofferson is a part of its rich history. For Tootsies' 50th anniversary show, we are booking artists which most honor its past, present, and future."
Legend asserts that Tootsie allowed Kristofferson and Willie Nelson to reside upstairs from the bar when times got tough for them early in their careers. After struggling in Music City for several years, Kristofferson achieved remarkable success as a country songwriter at the start of the 1970s. His songs "Me and Bobby McGee," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," "Sunday Morning Coming Down," and "For the Good Times," all chart-topping hits, helped redefine country songwriting. He won the Country Music Association's song of the year award in 1970 and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
After the Ryman show, Smith will host the official VIP after-party at Tootsies. VIP package ticket holders will walk the purple carpet those famous 37 steps from the stage door of the Ryman to the back door of Tootsies where, in the 50s and 60s, the greatest Opry stars like Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, and Ernest Tubb would make that stroll to hang out, pick their guitars, and fraternize with the country fans who would pack Tootsies.
Today, Tootsies Orchid Lounge is a must-see Music City destination for tourists and is frequented by locals, including some of the biggest names in country music, who often drop in and surprise patrons with impromptu performances. In 2008, Tootsies opened another establishment at Pier Park, Panama City Beach.
$40 tickets for the Ryman show only will be available via TicketMaster or at the Ryman box office. For additional information, visit www.tootsies.net.

COUNTRY STARS CELEBRATE SOUTHWEST CONNECTION
Randy Houser and Little Jimmy Dickens Led Nashville Delegation on Southwest Airlines’ Inaugural Non-Stop Flight Between Nashville and Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, Sunday, May 23
Nashville, TN (May 24, 2010) – Fans of the world famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, have something new to celebrate. Southwest Airlines is now offering non-stop flights between Nashville and Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, bridging the gap between its Nashville and Panama City Beach locations. To fete the occasion, on Sunday afternoon, country stars Randy Houser and Little Jimmy Dickens led a Nashville delegation to the new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport on Southwest Airlines’ inaugural flight from Nashville.
Upon landing, Houser and Dickens, Butch Spyridon, President of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and a contingency from Tootsie's Nashville, were welcomed at the Southwest gate by media, and Dan Rowe, President/CEO of the Panama City Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Nashville delegation then arrived in style at Tootsie’s Pier Park where they exited super-stretch limousines and walked the purple carpet to the cheers of hundreds of waiting fans. Portraits of Houser and Dickens were then unveiled and hung above the entrance to the packed honky-tonk. After signing numerous autographs and posing for photos, Houser jumped on stage and played a couple of songs for the enthusiastic crowd.
Houser, whose sophomore album THEY CALL ME CADILLAC, will be released Tuesday, September 14 on Show Dog-Universal Music, commented, "We songwriters love to get near the water. And Southwest just made it a whole lot easier for us in country music, and the whole Nashville community, to jump down here as quickly as we can."
Spyridon added, “I’m here to remind everyone that the flight goes both ways and look forward to having the fine folks from the beautiful northwest Florida beaches visiting us in Music City.”
